The meaning of illusory is very closed to the meaning of illusive, although not exactly the same. Both are adjectives.  [See note below]

Illusory means ‘based on illusion; not real.’

Example sentences:

  1. Development in gender equality is both real and illusory; things have and have not progressed since the 1970s.
  2. Are young lovers deceiving themselves with illusory promises of undying love?
  3. True free will is an illusory concept because it is never always free from influence.
  4. Success is illusionary if you have to belittle others to achieve it.
